Soccer as a unifying force
At Club Brugge Foundation, we believe that soccer should be accessible to everyone. That is why our Club BruggeG-team offers youngsters from the age of 12 with a mental disability the opportunity to play sports together, to develop themselves and to defend our Blue-Black colors. Enjoyment of the game and solidarity are always central.
Why a G-team?
Not everyone finds their place within the regular soccer circuit. For young people with intellectual disabilities, a safe, appropriate environment is essential. The G-team offers that space: customized trainings and matches, where talents are recognized and everyone can experience the game at his or her own level.
Our approach
The operation of the G-team rests on three pillars:
-
Customized training: weekly sessions on Wednesday afternoons, in three level groups so that each player can grow at his or her own pace.
-
Guidance by experts: a team of qualified trainers and coaches actively responds to the needs of the youngsters and also provides support during competitions.
-
Competition and experience: participation in numerous tournaments, the West Flemish G-competition and the organization of an annual Club Brugge G-soccer tournament, where more than 30 teams and 500 G-soccer players come together at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
Impact in practice
The G-team is more than just soccer. Youngsters learn to work together, gain self-confidence and experience what it means to be part of a team. With the support of trainers, volunteers and family members, the team grows into a warm community, where every player feels appreciated and connected.
