Last days, the various European project partners of the Football for Climate Justice project, of which our Foundation is a part, descended on Bruges for the 4th International Seminar.
'Football for Climate Justice' is a European project under the coordination of the European Football Development Network (EFDN) and financially supported by the European Commission within the Erasmus+ program.
Within this project, which runs until June 2025, Club Brugge Foundation, together with 9 other European clubs & organizations, undertakes various actions and initiatives regarding the awareness of the ecological footprint within soccer. As a follow-up to the joint project, the project partners met this week in Bruges to prepare the next phase of the project.
Official reception in city hall
On Tuesday evening, the delegation was invited by Alderman for Climate, Energy and Environmental Policy Minou Esquenet for an official reception at the City Hall: "Club Brugge has been a powerful international ambassador for our beautiful city for years. Every European home game, we always receive the board of the opposing team in our city hall. We are proud that we can now do the same for the partners of this valuable project of Club Brugge Foundation. We are very pleased that Club Brugge Foundation wants to do their bit to help support the important climate challenge."
Peter Gheysen Head of Foundation: "Football is not just a sport; it is a passion, a universal language that brings people together regardless of their background, beliefs or origins. Soccer clubs can harness this power to inspire and mobilize millions of people to protect our planet for future generations. We at Club Brugge are convinced that we can use our influence to make a positive impact. That is why we participate in this project and are proud to host this international meeting."
The other participating European soccer clubs participating in this project with their Foundation operation are Werder Bremen (Ger), FC Twente (Ndl), Sankt Pauli (Ger), Real Betis Balompie (Sp), Bohemian FC (Irish) and Ferencvárosi TC (Ho) and the Spanish La Liga. They are assisted in this project by the research agency TASC and the European Football Development Network.
