Ivan Leko: "It was a pleasing win"
Club Brugge picked up an important win at Kuipje and Ivan Leko was very happy about that. "It was a pleasing win. We showed that we can also win when we are not playing our best football. Last week it was the other way around. Then we played good, but only got a draw out of it. I am also happy with how we got ahead 0-2 here. After that we still had problems with their set pieces and long balls. We were a little too passive there sometimes, because you always have to attack the ball instead of waiting passively. But at least this is a very important victory, so we can enjoy that for now. But starting tomorrow the focus is already going toward our match next week."
Leko was unable to call on Mechele in Westerlo and also saw Vanaken and Seys injured during the match. "Everyone knows how important Hans is for us, but the boys handled his absence well. Let's hope the injuries are not too bad and that Brandon is also fully recovered from his illness soon."
Jorne Spileers: "Didn't know I was going to play until today."
Since Brandon Mechele was not yet fully fit after illness, Jorne Spileers was in the starting eleven. The young defender played with Club NXT earlier this week and thus had to play two matches in a few days. "Since Brandon was ill, I would possibly be in action but I only knew for sure today. It was the first time in a long time for me to play two matches in a week, so it was a bit of a struggle for me. But all in all, it went well."
"After halftime, we lost the feeling. They pinned us down constantly and often played the long ball. We didn't play good enough, making it difficult for ourselves. But we kept playing compact and kept the focus. That's what the coach insists on during every training session and also constantly during the match."
Romeo Vermant: "We countered tremendously well"
Romeo Vermant was allowed to come on against his former team Westerlo and so the question for him is whether it felt more satisfying. "No, every victory is nice. Of course it's special for me to come back here to Westerlo. A club that has given me a lot, but above all it's a good win. Especially just before the end of the regular league, and to stay close to the top."
The striker was pleased with how Club Brugge performed, especially how the counterattacking moves played out. "That first goal for example, we capitalized on a defensive mistake where they wanted to go forward a little too eagerly. We were very dangerous on the break, today." Apart from that, he was also happy with the overall game. "Defensively we didn't always have it easy because they have the offensive qualities with a good, strong striker. I think it was genuinely a good game from Westerlo and we really had to give 100% effort to bring home the three points."
