Atlético Madrid secured an important victory in La Liga ahead of their return against Club Brugge. The home side fell behind early when Jofre Carreras scored for Espanyol in the sixth minute, but Alexander Sørloth brought Atlético alongside still in the first half. After the break, Atlético completely took over initiative, and Giuliano Simeone put Atlético ahead shortly after the resumption, with Ademola Lookman extending the score a bit later on. Alexander Sørloth scored his second goal of the night in the 72nd minute, making it 4-1. In the closing stages, Edu Expósito eased to 4-2, but it did not change the result. With this win, Atlético is now fourth in La Liga, three points behind Villarreal.
The team now looks ahead to the return game against Club Brugge, to be played on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6:45 p.m. in Madrid.
