Sustainability is a theme that can no longer be ignored in our society. Even in the soccer sector, attention to its ecological impact is growing. Thanks to the wide reach of the soccer world and the passion that soccer brings, the soccer sector can also play a significant role in the move towards ecological sustainability. At Club Brugge, too, this theme has been increasingly prominent on the agenda in recent years. That is why Club Brugge Foundation, the community operation of Club Brugge, has joined as a partner of the pan-European project 'Football for Climate Justice'.
Football for Climate Justice' is a European project under the coordination of the European Football Development Network (EFDN) and financially supported by the European Commission within the Erasmus+ program. Within this project, which runs until June 2025, Club Brugge Foundation, together with 9 other European clubs & organizations, will organize during 3 years different actions and initiatives concerning the awareness of the ecological footprint within soccer. The other participating European soccer clubs that participate in this project with their Foundation operation are Werder Bremen (Ger), FC Twente (Ndl), Sankt Pauli (Ger), Real Betis Balompie (Sp), Bohemian FC (Irish) and Ferencvárosi TC (Ho) and the Spanish La Liga. They are assisted in this project by the research agency TASC and the European Football Development Network.
"Sustainability is already a theme affecting all sections of the Club family. This will only become more important in the future. We consider it a must as a Club to be at the table in this European project, in order to gain and share experience and knowledge on an international level," said Peter Gheysen, Head of Foundation.
