On Sunday evening, March 22, the Blues will face KV Mechelen on the final matchday of the regular season. Kick-off is at 6.30 PM at the Jan Breydel Stadium. You can read all the information about the match below in the Club Facts.
THE MATCH
For the final game of the regular season, Club hosts KV Mechelen. Notably, in the past two seasons the Mechelen side were always the first opponent of the season in Bruges, whereas this time they form the final hurdle on the road to the Champions’ Play-Offs.
It will already be the 122nd duel between the two clubs. In 60 home league matches against the yellow-red side, Club Brugge recorded 41 wins, 11 draws, and the visitors took all three points home 8 times. The Blues' last home defeat against KV Mechelen dates back to January 21, 2012, meaning Club has now gone twelve consecutive home matches unbeaten against “De Kakkers” (7 wins, 5 draws), although the last two duels in Bruges both ended in 1-1 draws.
Of the last five duels against Malinwa, the Blues have won only one (3 draws, 1 loss): a 1-2 victory in December 2024 Achter de Kazerne. Earlier this season, Club lost 2-1 in Mechelen. After 7 minutes, Kerim Mrabti gave the home side an early lead, assisted by Patrick Pflücke. After halftime, KVM doubled their lead early on, with Rob Schoofs scoring from the penalty spot against Jackers. Despite as many as 20 attempts on goal, Club managed to score only once.
Club is unbeaten in its last six league matches (5 wins, 1 draw). If the Blues manage to extend that series on Sunday, it will equal its record from the 2025–2026 season. Between September 21 and November 1, Club also went seven matches unbeaten (6 wins, 1 draw).
A notable statistic is that both Club and KV Mechelen have scored in 25 matches this season. Together with KRC Genk, this is the highest number in the Jupiler Pro League.
Nicolò Tresoldi, thanks to his goal last weekend, is now the sole top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League with 12 goals. The German striker is also in excellent form, with six goals in his last six league matches. Across all competitions, Tresoldi has been involved in 20 Bruges goals this season (16 goals and 4 assists). Christos Tzolis is also very decisive: the assist leader has contributed in each of the last three league matches (2 goals and 1 assist).
In addition, it will be a special match for several Club players. Jorne Spileers, Kyriani Sabbe, Hugo Vetlesen, Joaquin Seys, Christos Tzolis, and Aleksandar Stanković all made their league debut for Club Brugge against KV Mechelen.
Brandon Mechele and Christos Tzolis must avoid a yellow card to ensure they do not miss the first match of the Champions’ Play-Offs.
THE OPPONENT
KV Mechelen will visit the Jan Breydel Stadium on Sunday evening for the final game of the regular season. It will not be the last time the Mechelen side travels to Bruges this season, as Malinwa qualified for the Champions’ Play-Offs for the first time last weekend.
This weekend, RSC Anderlecht, KAA Gent, KRC Genk, and Standard Liège will determine among themselves who takes the final two spots. As KV Mechelen makes its Champions’ Play-Off debut, they become the 15th club to participate in the format across 16 editions. On Sunday, they face Club Brugge, the most experienced team in PO1, as the Blues have participated in all 16 editions.
Last weekend, Malinwa pulled off a surprise with a 1-0 victory against RSC Anderlecht, their 12th win of the season. Summer signing Myron Van Brederode scored the winning goal in the 91st minute, ensuring the yellow-red side could no longer drop out of the top six.
Away from home, KV Mechelen collected 21 points out of 42. They won at KVC Westerlo (0-1), Sporting Charleroi (0-2), FCV Dender EH (1-3), KRC Genk (0-1), Cercle Brugge (2-3), and RAAL La Louvière (0-2); drew against Zulte Waregem (1-1), Standard (1-1), and OH Leuven (2-2); and lost at Antwerp FC (2-1), RSC Anderlecht (3-1), STVV (1-0), Union SG (1-0), and KAA Gent (3-1).
Myron Van Brederode is the club’s top scorer. Thanks to his winning goal last weekend, he has now scored seven goals this season. In the last six matches, the Dutch attacker has been involved in six goals (4 goals and 2 assists). The former AZ player is also the joint assist leader alongside Benito Raman and Mathis Servais, all with three assists.
Notably, Malinwa is the only club in the Jupiler Pro League that has not received a red card this season. However, Fredrik Hammar has accumulated 9 yellow cards. If the Swedish midfielder gets an additional yellow card, he will miss the first two PO1 matches.
