Football Memories

Making memories together and connecting

Football Memories, the project that puts dementia and loneliness out of action! This project is inspired by the successful Football Memories project in Scotland and the Netherlands. Football Memories is an activity where older people come together in a safe and calm environment to reminisce about football and stimulate their brains. This project not only helps fight dementia, but also combats loneliness in the Bruges community.

The project focuses on the following issues:

  • Engaging and connecting older people at risk of losing connection with society

  • Providing a safe and peaceful environment for elderly people with loneliness and/or (incipient) dementia

  • Stimulating and supporting participants' thinking skills, communication and emotional well-being

  • Putting participation and inclusion at the centre, so that participants can continue to participate fully in society

At Football Memories, participation and inclusion are key and participants can continue to participate fully in society by reminiscing together in a familiar environment.
