Bruges, September 6, 2023 - In September 2022, Club Brugge Foundation opened a brand new minipitch at Kustpark Knapen in Zeebrugge. This minipitch was donated by Club Brugge to Stad Brugge in order to bring together as many youngsters from Zeebrugge as possible with "the connecting power of soccer" in sports and games. This minipitch clearly does not miss its target and reaches a lot of youngsters in Zeebrugge every day.
One year after the festive opening of this mini-pitch, Club Brugge, in collaboration with partner Port of Antwerp-Bruges, decided to give the neighborhood park near the seaport of Zeebrugge an extra sport and game element with the installation of a unique 'Teqball Table'. Teqball is a game variant best described as a cross between soccer and table tennis. Made from sturdy and durable materials, this new playground equipment gives youngsters the opportunity to hone their technical skills. Values that fit seamlessly with the DNA of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, which is putting its weight behind this initiative.
The brand new 'Teqball Table' was officially presented to the Zeebrugge youth during an afternoon of entertainment and soccer attractions. Club players Hans Vanaken, Brandon Mechele and Maxim De Cuyper were also present and eagerly handed out autographs and photos.
Vincent Welter, Sponsorship & Partnership Expert Port of Antwerp-Bruges: "As the largest port in Belgium and proud sponsor of Club Brugge, we like to invest in the connection between the city and the port. Therefore, we are happy to contribute our bit to the mini-pitch in Zeebrugge by means of a Teqball Table. With this partnership, we hope to bring young people from the neighborhood together and let them enjoy sports and recreation. We wish them a lot of fun!"
Mayor Dirk De fauw: "After the donation of the mini-pitch last year, we are delighted to receive another sporting gift from Club Brugge Foundation this year. We are convinced that young and old will enjoy using this football volleyball table here. This means local and social added value for the coastal park Knapen."
Peter Gheysen, Head of Foundation Club Brugge: "Club Brugge attaches great importance to its social role. After already donating a mini-pitch last year, we are happy to add a Teqbal table to that this year. The local anchoring with (Zee)Brugge is very important to us. It is fantastic that we can bring sport and the social fact together here."
Alderman of Public Domain Mercedes Van Volcem: "With the coastal park Knapen we want to give the inhabitants of Zeebrugge a place where greenery, rest and recreation go together. As alderman, it is important to me that there is sufficient space on the public domain for sports and games. This Teqball Table and the mini-pitch donated to the park by the Club Brugge Foundation are an added value for the many Zeebrugge residents who regularly visit the park."
Alderman for Sport Franky Demon: "The liveability of Zeebrugge is very close to our hearts and from the Zeebrugge Working Group recently came the request to invest more in sporting opportunities for Zeebrugge residents, not least for young people. Our Sports Service took this to heart and soon a brand new series of dance lessons for children will start in the Community House. This complements the 'Sports on Friday' offer, which is also starting up again this school year. It is great that Club Brugge Foundation and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges help support our sporting goals. Last year, the Knapen site already received a mini-pitch. This year, the Club Brugge Foundation and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges are donating a Teqball Table, a fun new popular game that combines different sports disciplines. This donation is a great addition to the Knapen Park, which we want to develop even more in the future as a sporting 'urban' hotspot for Zeebrugge. Within the master plan, we aim to provide sufficient space for sporting development, thinking among other things of a running route, outdoor fitness, opportunities for cyclists and skaters ..."
