Club Brugge Foundation's guide service consists of 14 guides who work daily to give visitors a unique experience when visiting the Jan Breydel Stadium. Every year, more than 480 visits are scheduled to the Jan Breydel Stadium, with last year being a top year with a record 7,753 visitors.
Facts & Anecdotes
After so many years of service, it was time to take the guides out of their nose and we subjected them to a small questionnaire.
From this came a lot of fun facts:
- The number of years of service as a volunteer of our guides at Club Brugge varies from 3 months to 16 years
- Almost every guide gives a different favorite space in the Jan Breydel Stadium. The field, the lodge building, the press room, the museum, Sterchele's canvas, ...
- The number ofrequests from abroad has increased spectacularly in recent years. Thanks to the European qualifications in recent years, brand awareness and sympathy for Club Brugge increased.
- Besides visitors from Belgium and the Netherlands, our guides already guided people from all over the world: Chile, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, China, USA, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ukraine, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria ...
"Often I am even invited abroad or the visitors email me afterwards to thank us"
- Steve, guide at Club Brugge
There is also no shortage of anecdotes when talking to our guides. During all these years of service, the guides have experienced a few things. For example, guide Nicole had a newlywed couple on the floor who were on their honeymoon and visiting stadiums everywhere, Jan Breydel Stadium being their last stop of the trip.
Guide Francis had an amazed group of people from Africa visiting:
"They had never seen such a modern stadium and didn't understand why we absolutely want to build a new one."
Personal approach
Our guide service is at the very highest level. We know this because our guides have already followed numerous stadium tours throughout Europe, but also because our national and international visitors let us know on a regular basis.
"The person who has stayed with me the most is Nathan, a Liverpool supporter. After the tour, he also became a Club Brugge supporter. He now follows all the matches live and comes to Belgium whenever he can to catch a match live at the stadium."
- Peter, guide at Club Brugge
Eric, guide with 16 years of experience on the counter at Club Brugge, has already guided countless visitors. He has the power to make visitors sing in the stands of the Jan Breydel Stadium.
"One time I was guiding almost 100 Beerschot supporters.... I did not make them sing FCB Olé Olé"
But it is mainly the foreign visitors who extensively congratulate our guides for the pleasant, richly filled and personal stadium tour.
Guide Etienne also agrees that the trump card of the current stadium tours at Club Brugge is the personal contact with the visitors and the enthusiasm of the entire guide staff.
"I also prepare myself every time, especially with foreign visitors. I look for connections between their country and our club in terms of history, matches, players, etc."
- Steve, guide Club Brugge
Team spirit
Just like in a soccer team, there is a huge team spirit in the guide work. Thanks to their dedication and sacrifices, they ensure that almost every request can be answered positively and visitors are guided through the Jan Breydel Stadium for 90 minutes (or often longer), filled with fun anecdotes and facts.
"I joined a fantastic team of guides, each with a great love for Club," said guide Gerard who started as a volunteer guide at Club Brugge about 3 months ago.
Everyone welcome
Individuals, families, youth groups, youth camps, soccer teams, people with disabilities. Everyone wants to see the Jan Breydel Stadium!
We asked the guides which visitors they prefer to guide:
"The interest and enthusiasm of groups with people with mental disabilities is phenomenal!"
